61 Chevy Impala SS

Lewis "Possum" Jones from Mango, FL raced on the Nascar Grand National circuit 47 times between 1952 and 1965. During the 1963 season he also ran Sportsman races out of Columbia, SC. During the 1956 season Ned Jarrett of Newton, NC finished 2nd in the National Nascar Sportsman point standings. That same year Jarrett was the North Carolina State Champion, and also won Track Championships at Asheville, NC, and Greenville, SC. During the early years Jarrett usually drove cars numbered 238. This photo was taken at the old Concord Speedway and is from the Brian Simpson collection.
